Our Story

It began on a bathroom shelf.

A pair of hands cradling the Pupproper Resurrection Dry Wash bottle — founder POV

An unopened bottle of Aesop hand wash sat next to a half-empty bottle of dog shampoo with a cartoon bee on it. The two products did, structurally, the same thing — clean a surface, leave a scent, ask for thirty seconds of your attention. One was treated as a ritual. The other was treated as an errand.

The dog in question — a Labradoodle named after a film director — did not register the difference. The owner did.

We started Pupproper because the gap between what was on offer for the pet care aisle and what was on offer for everything else on the bathroom shelf had become absurd. Dogs are members of households that spend two hundred dollars on a candle. They are not members of households that should be sprayed with anything that costs less than the candle.

Every Pupproper product is held to the same standard: GRAS-listed ingredients, each named on the bottle in plain INCI; a pH measured for dogs rather than people; a fragrance — sandalwood, neroli, vetiver — written against the canine exclusion list; and a bottle designed for the shelf you don't hide under the sink.

The result is a small line of dog apothecary essentials at an altitude we think the customer has been quietly waiting for. We ship slowly. We do one thing at a time. The first thing is a dry shampoo, called Resurrection. The second is a stain remedy, called Confession. Both are made for the same person.

What we believe

A short list.

No exclamation marks.

We don't believe in writing to you for the sake of writing to you. When we do, it'll be short.

Nothing unnamed.

GRAS-listed ingredients, each named on the bottle. A dog-safe pH. A fragrance that clears the canine exclusion list. None of those standards can be skipped.

Hand-bottled in Brooklyn.

Small batches, slowly. We will scale when we have something worth scaling.

A bottle to display.

Every Pupproper product is meant to live on the counter. Not under the sink.

The Mark

One bottle. One family. One mark.

The Pupproper mark is built from three locked components: the wordmark, the tagline, and a sitting Labradoodle drawn as flat designed-vector. The same character sits on every bottle we make. Across coral and sage and the four colors still to come, the shelf reads as a family.
